Commentary on "Limits to the Use and Generalizability of the Views of Life Questionnaire"

Rogelio Diaz-Guerrero

Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico

As a "Commentary" on the article by Hosch et al, this essay summarizes the development of the Filosofia de Vida (Views of Life Questionnaire). The discussion focuses on how information obtained from the questionnaire usingMexican samples has contributed to the establishment of a Mexican ethnopsychology of cognition and personality. The problems encountered by Hosch et aL in replicating the original factor structure of the Views of Life Questionnaire show the difficulty in attempting to demonstrate a coherent ethnopsychology with a population as diverse as that of Mexico.
